Here at Banana Moon Barnstaple, we absolutely love reading and sharing stories with the children, which we do on a daily basis. Books are readily accessible in all of our age groups, for the children to explore independently or with an adult, and we share and explore stories with the children throughout the nursery day.

In addition to this, we were recently treated to a session from Story Bears! Story Bears is a local North Devon company, that provide story-centred play sessions that bring stories to life and give children the chance to explore the story, its topic and its themes.

During our Story Bears session, we explored the classic tale of ‘The Hare and the Tortoise.’ We read and explored the story, accompanied by a soft toy hare and tortoise. We did different actions at different points of the story, for instance when the hare decided to have a little nap! We then had an opportunity to play different instruments, which we played at different speeds to represent the fast hare and the slow tortoise. At the end we then danced and had a bubble machine to celebrate the tortoise winning the race! What a lot of fun we had!
