July Home Learning: Build a Sandcastle Together

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors, and this month's Home Learning Challenge encourages families to combine fun with learning by building a sandcastle together.

Whether you're visiting one of North Devon's beautiful beaches or creating your own sandy adventure at home, building a sandcastle offers children countless opportunities to learn through play. As they scoop, shape, stack and decorate, they naturally develop creativity, communication and problem-solving skills while bringing their ideas to life.

Simple activities like this also encourage teamwork, perseverance and imaginative thinking. Children can experiment with different designs, talk about what they're creating and work together with siblings, parents or friends to build something unique.

For younger children, sand play supports fine motor development and sensory exploration, while older children can challenge themselves by planning more detailed structures or adding imaginative features to their creations.
