Garden Makeover

Garden Makeover
We are very excited to unveil our new and improved rear garden!

We are fortunate to have two different garden environments for the children to play, learn and explore and we love outdoor learning! Our front lawned garden is a beautiful big, open space where we do Rugby Tots, build obstacle courses, go on nature hunts, ride the bikes, grow vegetables and much more! Our rear garden is smaller and enclosed and has just been redeveloped with lots of exciting updates!

The main change has been the flooring; we have had the floor changed to astro-turf to make the garden more accessible to our babies, as well as our older children. There is still rubber crumb underneath the astro, so it is still a nice soft landing if anyone takes a tumble!

As well as the change in flooring, we've also re-designed the layout and replenished the resources to support the children's learning and development!

The new set-up features:
  •  Herbs and beans planted by the children: The herbs provide a sensory experience for the children, exploring the textures and smells as well as observing the herbs and beans grow, supporting the children's understanding of the world.

  •  Water play: All children seem to love water play and it's also really beneficial for their development! The scooping, pouring and splashing helps with their motor skills and problem-solving skills!

  •  Weighing scales to promote early mathematics: Exploring the weight of objects and introducing mathematical language 'heavy' 'light'

  •  Mud kitchen and table: Lots of loose parts and pots and pans support the children's imaginative play and therefore their communication and language.

  •  Easel for mark-making: For using those all-important hand and arm muscles to make marks to lay the foundations for early writing.

  •  Cosy corner with books, cushions and blankets: A cosy space to chill out and relax, to support emotional regulation

  •  Enclosed area for themed play (currently cars and trucks!): A designated area for more 'big' play, where the trucks and diggers can zoom around and slide down the ramps and guttering.

  •  Tuff tray for messy play activities (set up daily): As with our indoor activities, staff set up daily play invitations in the tuff tray for the children to play with and explore that also supports their next steps.

The children are already loving the new garden and our next garden project will be to develop the outdoor 'den!' Watch this space for updates, and for photos check out our social media pages:
