At Banana Moon Barnstaple, our Mini Moons recently enjoyed an exciting opportunity to observe one of nature’s most remarkable transformations as they explored the life cycle of butterflies.
Using a butterfly-growing kit, the children began by observing tiny caterpillars and watching them grow day by day. As the caterpillars developed, the children carefully monitored each stage of the process, from caterpillar to chrysalis and eventually to butterfly.
Throughout the experience, the children were encouraged to ask questions, make predictions and share their observations with their friends and practitioners. Watching the changes happen over time helped the children develop an understanding of the natural world while fostering curiosity and a sense of wonder.
Activities like these provide valuable opportunities for children to learn through first-hand experiences. Observing life cycles supports children's understanding of growth and change while encouraging important skills such as patience, observation and communication.
One of the most exciting moments for the children was seeing the butterflies emerge and spread their wings for the very first time. This memorable experience helped bring learning to life and created lasting excitement throughout the nursery.
At Banana Moon Barnstaple, we love providing opportunities for children to explore nature and discover the world around them through hands-on learning. We are incredibly proud of how engaged and enthusiastic our Mini Moons were throughout this special learning adventure.
